Storm blank VooDoo in second half, win 42-13
- Updated: April 18, 2015
The Tampa Bay Storm scored 28 consecutive points and shut out the New Orleans VooDoo in the second half in a 42-13 Arena Football League victory Friday night at Amalie Arena.
Newly acquired Frank Mays blocked a 36-yard field goal try on the final play of the first half to preserve a 14-13 Storm lead heading into the break.
Defense was the catalyst for Tampa Bay (2-2), stifling New Orleans’ offense and shutting out the VooDoo during the second half. The Storm finished with four sacks, three turnovers and a bevy of highlight-reel hits.
“It was very exciting, I’m not going to lie,” Storm defensive lineman Brandon Sesay said. “You see (hits) like that and you’re back on and you want to get a piece of that (too).”
Jason Boltus tossed touchdown passes to Phillip Barnett on the Storm’s first two drives of the second half to start the second-half domination.
Boltus completed 19 of 29 passes for 224 yards and six touchdowns, including T.T Toliver’s 250th career scoring reception.
The Storm defense recorded four sacks. Mays had two while Richard Clebert and Dexter Jackson each added one.
The Storm improved to 2-2. The VooDoo dropped to 1-3.
