Orlando City Midfielder Brek Shea Called-Up to U.S. Men’s National Team
- Updated: January 9, 2015
Orlando City Soccer Club midfielder Brek Shea has been called-up to the U.S. Men’s National Team’s (USMNT) upcoming camp in Carson, California.
The USMNT’s opening camp of the year will also feature the team’s first friendly in 2015 against 14th ranked Chile, marking a significant opportunity for Shea to make his first appearance for the U.S., since featuring in the team’s 1-0 win over Czech Republic on September 3, 2014.
The camp will run from January 12-February 8 and is scheduled to occur in two continents, with the USMNT set to train for four days in Santiago, Chile. The match between the South American side and the USA will take place on Wednesday, January 28 at Estadio El Teniente. Kick-off time will be announced at a later date.
The USMNT camp will conclude with a friendly against Panama at the StubHub Center in Carson, California on February 8. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. PT, and the fixture will be broadcast live on ESPN, UniMas and Univision Deportes Network.
After receiving his first call-up to the senior team at 18 years old in June 2008, Shea has earned 27 caps for the USMNT – scoring two goals. Both of Shea’s goals occurred in the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup in dramatic fashion, as he scored game-winning goals against Costa Rica and Mexico in the final to propel the U.S. to a 1-0 victory.
Shea signed with Orlando City in December 2014 after spending two seasons with Stoke City in the English Premier League. Prior to playing in England’s top-flight, Shea spent five seasons with FC Dallas after being drafted second overall by the club in the 2008 Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft.
