Orlando City SC Signs Brazilian Defender Gustavo
- Updated: January 5, 2015
Orlando City Soccer Club announced today it has signed Brazilian center-back Gustavo Silva Conceição, as the Lions continue to comprise a capable squad leading into the 2015 Major League Soccer (MLS) season. Per Club and league policy, additional terms were not disclosed.
“We’re very pleased that Gustavo has joined the Club,” said Head Coach Adrian Heath. “He’s a tough and willing defender who we believe will be a fantastic complement to our existing core.”
The veteran defender will occupy the Lions’ fifth international slot, providing additional experience to City’s backline which currently includes former MLS Cup MVP and All-Star Aurélien Collin, Tyler Turner, Tommy Redding, Rafael Ramos and Luke Boden.
Nicknamed “Geladeira,” which translates into “The Refrigerator,” for his imposing frame, Gustavo joins City after a lengthy seven-year career in Brazil, featuring in over 80 matches for various Clubs in the Brazilian top-flight – including a three-year stint with five-time Brazilian Champions and Intercontinental Champions, Flamengo.
