Florida adds NC State transfer, eligible immediately
- Updated: June 24, 2015
The Florida Gators were down to a critically low six scholarship offensive linemen following spring practice but have now added an astonishing seven players at the position this summer with the recent addition of transfer T.J. McCoy from NC State to the Gators, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
McCoy made the decision to transfer to be closer to his father Tony, who has been battling Leukemia.
“When I came home and I saw my dad’s condition, I thought to myself, ‘I have to be home. I have to be closer to him to help out,” T.J. McCoy said. “When I saw him at home and saw how he was hurting and struggling, I knew I just had to be home and help out.”
McCoy will be immediately eligible to play after receiving a hardship waiver by the NCAA. The six-foot-two, 305-pound McCoy was rated as a three-star prospect by 247 Sports and will have five years to play four as any typical 2015 recruit would have, as he only enrolled at NC State last January.
In an interesting note, McCoy’s father played for the Gators and was an All-SEC First Team selection in 1991 on the defensive line.
