Orlando City Striker Cyle Larin Called Up to Canadian Men’s National Team

Orlando City striker Cyle Larin has been selected for Canada’s roster for its World Cup qualifier on June 11 in Roseau, Dominica, and June 16 at Toronto’s BMO Field.
This is not terribly surprising, given Larin’s recent standing with the Canadian Men’s National Team, but it means the rookie forward will not be available for Orlando City’s June 14 fixture vs. D.C. United or the U.S. Open Cup match at the Charleston Battery on June 17. The 20-year-old would likely return in plenty of time for the match at Montreal on June 20.
Larin, the No. 1 pick in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft, is off to a terrific start to his professional career. In eight starts and 10 league appearances, Larin has four goals and 22 shots. He ranks second on the team in both categories to Kaká (six and 25, respectively), and also scored in a recent friendly against Brazilian Serie A side Ponte Preta.
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound product out of the University of Connecticut recently opened his international account with Canada, scoring in a 3-0 friendly victory at Puerto Rico on March 30. The Brampton, Ontario native has been capped five times for his national team so far and looks to have a bright future for both club and country.
One other item of note for Canada’s roster: FC Dallas forward Tesho Akindele has been named to the team, meaning he appears to be settled on choosing Canada over the U.S. for his international soccer future.
