After being cut by NFL team, Brandon McGee, Ex-Bucs linebacker to join Red Sox
- Updated: March 25, 2015
Brandon Magee, a linebacker released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Wednesday, plans to report to minor league spring training with the Red Sox.
Magee, who played football and baseball at Arizona State, was drafted by the Red Sox in the 23rd round in 2012, but the outfielder has not played beyond spring training.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity they gave me at the time. Right now, I’m focused on spring training,” Magee told the Tampa Bay Times.
Magee played in nine games for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2014, tallying one tackle on defense and six on special teams. McGee, 24, is 5-feet-11, 256 pounds. He played on two College World Series teams at Arizona State and was drafted previously by Tampa Bay (2008) and Oakland (2011).
