Miami Basketball Drops Tough One to FSU 55-54

The Miami Hurricanes looked like a force to be reckoned with in the ACC, just one week ago.
But back to back losses in the ACC have dampened the mood a bit of Jim Larranaga’s squad.
UM blew a double digit lead in Tallahassee today, losing a heart breaking contest 55-54 to FSU.

Early on it was hard to tell if it was bad offense or good defense, as UM could not make a shot and FSU couldn’t stop turning the ball over.
Ice cold Angel Rodriguez still couldn’t knock one down, but did have a couple of assist to Davon Reed as Miami had an early one point lead.
The Noles went right at Tonye Jekiri and did get a bucket from Kiel Turpin to even things up.
Sheldon McClellan and Manu Lecomte both finally found the range, and Rodriguez hit his first shot in 2 games as the ‘Canes heated up enough to build an 21-14 lead.
They would extend the lead to double digits with a pair of layups by Reed and Rodriguez, as the Seminoles continued to struggle immensely on offense.
At one point Miami would even go on a 17-1 run.
UM took 15 three pointers in the first half alone, knocking down 6 of them
FSU committed 11 turnovers in the first 20 minutes of the game.
And at the half it was 36-25 UM.
Lecomte had 8 points for the ‘Canes. FSU freshman star Xavier Rathan-Mayes had just one bucket for 3 points, in the first stanza.
Florida State came out in the second half very determined though, and Montay Brandon had 7 quick points to cut the Miami lead to 4.
Coach L needed a time out.
The ‘Canes switched to zone, but Brandon kept finding the creases and what what earlier looked like a blow out, turned into a tight contest.
McClellan was scoring well for the Hurricanes, but Boris Bojanovsky and Brandon kept FSU close.
UM also had a lot of issues with turnovers, and a Jarquez Smith dunk would eventually knot things up 51.
From there, both teams scraped and battled with very little scoring down the stretch.
FSU built the narrowest of margins but Miami did have a chance to win it on the game’s final possession.
But alas McClellan’s runner rimmed out at the buzzer.
The ‘Canes did not play an awful game. but certainly lost a game they could have easily won.
Give credit to Brandon, who was easily the best player on the floor in the final 20.
