Florida State DE Mario Edwards Jr. plans to enter draft
- Updated: January 6, 2015
Florida State has reportedly said good-bye to its second draft-eligible junior of the day, with ESPN reporting that defensive end Mario Edwards Jr. plans to forgo his senior season in Tallahassee and enter next year’s draft.
A two-year starter, Edwards was named first-team All-ACC after finishing the 2014 season with 11 tackles-forloss, three sacks, two fumble recoveries and 44 total tackles. He was named third-team All-ACC following his sophomore season in 2013.
Per Noles247.com, Edwards has not yet confirmed the report.
Edwards is ranked the No. 11 defensive end in the 2015 NFL draft class according to NFLDraftScout.com, and could go in the second-to-third-round range.
The Edwards report follows on the heels of cornerback P.J. Williams’ tweet that he would also enter the draft. Four more Seminoles are still widely considered potential early draft entrants: cornerback Ronald Darby, placekicker Roberto Aguayo, defensive tackle Eddie Goldman and — of course — quarterback Jameis Winston. Winston’s father has said his son’s decision will not be made public until following the College Football Playoff title game.
