Freshmen leads No. 25 Georgetown past Creighton, 76-61
- Updated: January 3, 2015
Georgetown men’s basketball Coach John Thompson III has been offering plenty of praise lately to his freshmen and the poise they have been displaying. Saturday afternoon, the highly regarded group collectively produced its most complete performance in the Hoyas’ 76-61 victory over Creighton.
Four freshmen combined for 39 points, scoring 19 of 21 and 13 in a row bridging the halves in No. 25 Georgetown’s Big East home opener in front of an announced 11,164 at Verizon Center. The Hoyas regrouped with a flourish in beating Creighton for a second straight time following a loss to Xavier in the Big East opener that began late Wednesday night and didn’t conclude until 2015.
The difference this time was in large part L.J. Peak, Tre Campbell, Paul White and Isaac Copeland. Peak had 14 points to lead the quartet; Campbell finished with 13 on 5-for-7 shooting while White chipped in 10 points, four rebounds and two steals; and Copeland’s only field goal gave the Hoyas the lead for good moments before halftime.
