Lightning Recall G Andrei Vasilevskiy

The Tampa Bay Lightning have recalled goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy from the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League today, vice president and general manager Steve Yzerman announced.

Vasilevskiy, 20, has appeared in three games with the Lightning this season, posting a record of 2-1-0 to go along with a 2.01 goals-against average and a .940 save percentage. He earned his first NHL victory on December 16 at Philadelphia in his NHL debut, making 23 saves on 24 shots. Vasilevskiy became the third goalie in Lightning history to post a victory in his NHL debut. He set a new Lightning rookie record for saves in a game by making 45 on December 20 against the New York Islanders.

The 6-foot-3, 207-pound goaltender has appeared in 16 games with the Crunch this season, posting a record of 9-3-4 to go along with a 2.34 goals-against average and a .919 save percentage. He was named the CCM/AHL Player of the Week on December 15 after posting a record of 2-0-0 with a 0.50 goals-against average and a .982 save percentage. The Tyumen, Russia native posted shutouts in back-to-back starts on December 6 vs. Rochester and December 10 at Springfield. He is 5-0-1 in his previous six games for Syracuse, allowing more than two goals just once during that span.

Vasilevskiy was drafted by the Lightning in the first round, 19th overall, at the 2012 NHL Draft.
